KRRI successfully conducted a 15km/h test run of the rubber-tired AGT(Automatic Guideway Transit) prototype vehicle on July 23 on test track. The 2.26km long line had been constructed in Kyongsang, lang=EN-US>North Kyongsang province. To be operated unmanned when completed though, the vehicle needed a driver at this stage and electricity came on from the third rail (DC 750V) for the move.
Funded by the Ministry of Construction and Transportation, the LRT vehicle operation bears significant meaning in that KRRI organized the overall project with its own technology to put the operation into practice for the first time in lang=EN-US>Korea. The test run was an essential procedure in the course of verifying interface specifications between the vehicle system and electricity supply system, and between the vehicle system and guide rail, the third rail, and track.
