International Seminar to Commemorate KRRI’s 26th Anniversary: Global Leading Strategy for Prestigious K-Rail Tech

To commemorate its 26th anniversary, the Korea Railroad Research Institute hosted an international seminar online and offline on the theme Global Leading Strategy for Prestigious K-Rail Tech at ASEM Ballroom 202, COEX Convention & Exhibition Center in Seoul Feb. 24th. The seminar presented strategies and measures for leading technologies to overcome the limitations of the domestic railway market and advance to the global railway market.

Director General Kang Hee-up of the Railway Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport delivered his keynote lecture on the theme, Policy Directions for Strengthening Competitiveness of the Railway Industry.

Overseas cases were shared by keynote lectures on Europe’s railway policies and progress of technology development in the future moving toward digital transformation and carbon neutrality. Carlo Borghini, executive director of Europe’s Rail, European railway research program, gave the presentation Towards a Climate-neutral Society: The Transformation of European Rail, and Professor Jana Pieriegud of the GSH Warsaw School of Economics in Poland delivered a presentation on Europe’s Digital Transformation Strategy and Its Progress in the Railway Market.

In Part I, there were thematic presentations on: 1) Global Leading Strategy for Prestigious K-Rail Tech, presented by Sagong Myung, director general of KRRI’s Research Strategy Division; 2) Digital Transition in Railway Signaling, Communications, and Electricity, presented by Jeong Rag-Gyo, director general of KRRI’s Smart Electrical and Signaling Division; 3) Big Data-based Railway Safety, presented by Chanwoo Lee, head of KRRI’s Railroad Safety Division, and 4) Smart K-mobility & K-logistics, presented by Yongjang Kwon, head of the Future Transport Policy & Logistics Research Center.

Part II feature presentations on 1) the Future of K-rolling stock: High Speed and Safety, presented by Kwak Jae-ho, director general of the Advanced Railroad Vehicle Division, KRRI; 2) Smart Maintenance of Railway in the Non-contact Era, presented by Park Young-Kon, director general of KRRI’s Advanced Railroad Civil Engineering Division, and 3) K-railway technology in the Era of Carbon Neutrality, presented by Lee Cheul Kyu, senior researcher with the New Transportation Innovation Research Center).
