2010~Present

  • Apr. 2018 Completion of real scale test facilities in Osong
  • Dec. 2017 KRRI received the Top 100 Leading Technology in 2025 Korea by
    the Korean Academy of Science and Technology (regarding interoperable technology of
    Korea-Eurasia railway and 3 other technologies)
  • Sep. 2017 Mini Tram was awarded as the Outstanding Research Achievement by
    the Ministry of Science and ICT
  • Dec. 2016 IoT based freight train monitoring technology received the 2016
    Innovation Award by International Union of Railways (UIC)
  • Oct. 2015 Wireless power transfer technology and concrete accelerating curing
    technology were awarded as the Outstanding Research Achievement by the Ministry
    of Science, ICT and Future Planning
  • Sep. 2015 Korea High-speed Train was awarded as one of the top 70th
    technologies of Korea
  • Dec. 2014 KRRI received the 2014 Innovation Award from the International Union of Railways (UIC)
    for its wireless tram and wireless power transmission train technologies.
  • Dec. 2013 KRRI was recognized as an excellent institute by the Ministry of Science,
    ICT and Future Planning for its excellent management and sharing research facilities.
  • Apr. 2013 KRRI was recognized as an excellent institute for research project
    management during a nationwide institute evaluation by the Korea Research Council for Industrial
    Science and Technology.
  • Mar. 2013 Increased the top speed of HEMU-430X (421.4km/h, ranked fourth fastest in the world).
  • Nov. 2012 KRRI received the Korea’s Top Technology Commercialization Institute award
    by the National Science & Technology Council.
  • Oct. 2012 Bimodal tram was selected as the “10th New Transportation Technology”
    by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport.
  • Apr. 2011 KRRI was appointed as the best research institute (1st place in research
    institute evaluation) by the Korea Research Council for Industrial Science and Technology.
  • Dec. 2010 KRRI had the highest levels of customer satisfaction for three years (since 2008)
    among the institutes supported by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy.

1996~2009

  • Nov. 2009 Electric railway energy storage system was certified as New
    Excellent Technology (NET).
  • May 2008 KRRI held the World Congress on Railway Research (WCRR) 2008.
  • Apr. 2007 Korean TTX (Tilting Train Express) was selected as the National Top-Brand project among government-funded institutes.
  • Oct. 2006 Korean high-speed trains won a gold medal from Korea Technology Awards.
  • Oct. 2005 Korean self-driving lightweight train transit, K-AGT (Korean-Automated Guideway Transit), was confirmed to be implemented for Busan’s “Minam-Anpyeong” subway line.
  • Oct. 2004 KRRI’s establishment basis law was revised to the Act on Establishment and Operations of Government-funded Science & Technology Research Institutes
    and Other Related Organizations (affiliated with the Ministry of Science and Technology).
  • Aug. 2000 KRRI was approved as an official test center of KOLAS (Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme) by the Korean Agency for Technology
    and Standards in Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy.
  • Jan. 1999 KRRI’s establishment basis law was revised to the Act on Establishment and Operations of Government-funded Research Institutes
    (affiliated with the Prime Minister’s Office).
  • Mar. 1996 KRRI, funded by Korea Railroad (KORAIL), was established under the provision of the Act on Special Cases Concerning National Railway Operations.
